I have been playing a bard for the last several weeks and have yet to use a musical instrument. I see them around both in loot and also on the market but I can't imagine replacing a weapon with an instrument. I would assume for non combative situations, such as healing or running, a instrument might be very interesting to use.

Anyone have any ideas on how and when to use a musical instrument?

Personally, I've only played a bard up to the mid twenties so far, so I am not qualified to really answer that question .. lol
