Quest Offering:
- "The Aurora family has been fighting this war with the ulvari in dreams, but it has ultimately been a losing battle," Guan Chi Ake says. "They, apparently, gave a scroll years ago to a man they believed would be able to help them. Soon after, though, he was taken over by one of the ost powerful ulvari."
- "They need the scroll back from that man. Please, see Lieutentant Asa Aurora for more information regarding this matter. I believe her cart was spotted outside the city broken down."
Npc Dialogue
Guan Chi Ake
- "The council in Tawar Galan has proved to plague-like in its ability to soak up resources," Guan Chi Ake says.
- "You are overextended as well?" you ask.
- "Yes," she says. "Guan Sun Cho is dealing with all manner of people who want to know about orc culture."
- "Everyone comes to me though," she continues, "when they want to know everything about the Martok military."
- "So you not have enough agents to deal with all the requests?" you ask.
- "I don't have enough agents under normal circumstance," she says. "And I'm burning good will by turning down requests for closed intelligence."
- "What has come up now?" you ask. "What of this war you mentioned?"
- Guan Chi Ake looks around, then whispers, "I have heard of you. But I must know if you can act quietly and unseen."
- You nod and quietly answer, "I have and can."
- "There is a war going on," she says, "with the ulvari. They have infiltrated certain high-ranking members of our court."
- "I don't have any agents to spare openly," she continues. "I need someone no one will connect back to me."
- "That can be done," you say. "I've worked in secret before."
- "Good," she says. "Please understand that tough you may not like the people I will mention, they must be freed just the same."
- "My personal feelings will not enter into it," you say.
- "Then I welcome you in the service of the office of Imperial Intelligence," she says.
- "Thank you," you say. "I will act with the discretion needed of an imperial agent."
Lieutenant Asa Aurora
- "Lieutenant Aurora," you say, "I have been sent to speak to you about a secret matter."
- "If you aren't here to help me with my men and my caravan here, I don't know what I can help you with."
- "It involves the ulvari," you say, "and their infiltration of Tanvu."
- "Ah, that," she says, sighing. "Yes, that I can help you with. What do you need to know?"
- "I have been ordered to retrieve a sacred scroll that belongs to your family. Tell me what the scroll is and what you need me to do."
- Her eyes widen as she gasps. "They're finally ready to get the scroll back?"
- "They are. At least, I am," you say. "Tell me what you know."
- "The scroll was given to Ish Eii years ago," she says. "A poet of some renown, we thought he possessed the proper balance to help us."
- "I know that he was soon conquered by the ulvari," you say. "What as on that scroll?"
- "It contained information about how to fight in the dream war," she says. "How to take the fight to the ulvari. He must have gained the attention of the wrong one. So far, we haven't seen that they are able to read or understand it though."
- "That is fortunate," you say. "I cannot just steal it from him. They will then know how important it is and probably destroy it."
- "That's correct," she says. "You'll need to see Master Tallon Darkfist. He will know how you can get it from him."
- "Thank you," you say. "I'll see him now."
Master Tallon Darkfist
- "Master Tallon," you say, bowing deeply, "I must speak with you about an urgent matter."
- He looks over the beach to the water. "Does the sea rush when it sees something of human importance?"
- "No," you say. "I suppose it doesn't."
- "Then why do you?" he asks. "Please, I can see the turmoil being caused by your need to rush through everything. Slow down."
- "Alright," you say, breathing deeply. "I need to know about the ulvari. How to trick them or force them out of someone."
- "That," hes says, smiling," is something you cannot do. Not by yourself."
- "What do you mean, Master?" you ask. "I don't understand."
- "The shield around Tanvu keeps the ulvari out", he says, "but not when they invade someone's dreams. However, that may be exactly where they need to be confronted."
- "How?" you ask. "Why haven't they done it yet?"
- "It requires a very specific person," he says. "Such a person must find the balance of Jin. Many of us choose one face of Jin. We study one aspect of it and master it."
- "However," he says, "you need someone who has mastered both faces of Jin. Someone whose soul is naturally balanced upon Jin."
- "Where would I find such a person?" you ask. "That sounds like an impossible order."
- "It would be," he says, smiling, "in other times."
- "What do you mean?" you ask.
- "I though the same as you, long ago," he says. "Until I met a man named Kasum. He came to my school to be trained. However, I was soon his student."
- "He had naturally found a balance," Master Tallon continues. "Seek him out in the city. I believe he is a poet now. The most skilled in my opinion."
- "What must he do, once I find him?"
- "He must infuse the shield with some of his essence. He must take control of the shield and instill it with balance," he says. "That will strengthen it such that no ulvari will be able to pass through it in any form."
- "Thank you, Master Tallon," you say, bowing.
Poet Kasum
- "Kasum," you say, bowing. "I was sent to you by an old friend of yours."
- "Were you?" he says. "Which one? I have met many people who would call me friend."
- "Master Tallon," you say. "I wish to speak to you about a matter of grave importance."
- "What would that be?" he asks.
- "You are uniquely talented for something I need done," you say. "You maintain an unheard of balance of Jin in your soul."
- "I do," he says, bowing deeply. "I was blessed with a calm soul."
- "You know of the shield around Tanvu," you say. "You may be able to help strengthen it to unknown heights."
- "Me?" he says. "How would I do that?"
- "I need you to infuse part of your balanced essence into it," you say. "It will help push the ulvari out of Tanvu."
- "That is a sacrifice I will make willingly," he says. "If my calm can restore some meager balance in Tanvu then I will do what I can."
- "Thank you," you say. "Please, step to the shield near the great bell."
- "I will be over there shortly," he says. "I would like to finish the poem I am working on. It will help bring me needed peace."
- "As you wish, Kasum," you say."
Poet Ish Eii
- "Ish Eii?" you ask. "Are you alright?"
- "As much as I have been in the past," he says. "I feel as though a great weight has been lifted from my soul."
- "It has, in a way," you say. "This is somewhat urgent, though."
- "I understand," he says. "What is so important?"
- "You have a scroll in your possession," you say. "The scroll of the Aurora family. May I please have it?"
- "I was told only to return into to a member of the Aurora family," he says. "I am sorry, I cannot give it to you."
- "How long have you had the scroll?" you ask.
- The poet looks at you surprised. "I have only had the scroll a few days," he says. "Why do you ask?"
- "I have some terrible news for you, Ish Eii," you say. "You were given that scroll years ago. You have been in the control of an ulvari since that time."
- "What? I I only made my first excursion into the dreaming two days ago."
- "No, Ish Eii. You made that excursion years ago. You have drew the ire of a particularly powerful ulvari, who, I fear, may return to take you."
- "I I don't understand," he says. "How could this have happened?"
- "I do not know," you say, "but I require that scroll. The Aurora family has been trying to retrieve it for years without success."
- "I I understand, I think," he says. "Please take the scroll. But I have one question for you."
- "What is that?"
- "Will the ulvari come back?" he asks. "Or am I free for good?"
- "I'm sorry, Ish Eii," you say, "but I do not know the answer to that question."
- You have looted Scroll of Aurora's Wisdom.
Juritor Aya Sa
- "You are interrupting my work," Aya Sa says. "What business do you believe allows you to be so rude?"
- "I am sorry, Juritor," you say, bowing, "but I have news of the Aurora Family scroll."
- "That," she says, "is important business indeed. However, you must learn to exercise proper manners. Without those, our great city means nothing."
- "I see," you say.
- "Do you wish to see the destruction of our society, Demila?" Aya Sa asks.
- "No, of course not," you say. "That is a ridiculous question."
- "Then do not chip away at the most important cornerstone of our great empire" she says. "Next time, I expect better of you."
- "Yes, Juritor," you say, rolling your eyes.
- "Now, what do you have to report?"
- "I have retrieved the scroll from the poet Ish Eii," you say. "But at a great cost."
- "What cost was that?" she asks. "Did you do as Asa Aurora suggested?"
- "I did," you say. "And as Master Tallon told me. I believe, however, it was a higher price than either believed."
- "What happened then?" she asks.
- "The poet Kasum, unique in his ability to balance both faces of Jin, was consumed by the shield of the city. His soul was rent in the process. A special man has been lost for this scroll."
- "Is this all?" she asks.
- "I no. The effect was not permanent," you say. "Or I do not believe it is. It seems the ulvari have merely been forced into hibernation, not forced out of the city."
Quest Completion
- "That is a high price to pay," Asa Sa says. "We have lost a great hero and man for this scroll."
- [Continue]
- "Though the effect is fleeting," she says, taking the scroll, "I believe the sacrifice was well worth this. With it, we can train many more soldiers for the war."
- "Take this facet as many thanks for your help, but be aware of something else. Your reckless actions with Kasum also caused our agents in the dreaming into hibernation. In the future you must act with more care. Now, please, leave me to my business."
