Quest Offering:
- Briggie sighs and says, "It is an unfortunate thing when a society is brought to ruin by their own prejudices. My people have recods of observing such self destruction upon worlds spanning all of existence, and believe it to be happening right her, right now."
- "The wood elves and the Tanvu humans scorn their half-blooded children and refuse to see how remarkable they are! Our scholars have reason to believe this is a grievous mistake and need your help in convinving Tanvu of that fact."
Npc Dialogue
Speaker Briggie
- You say, "Perhaps you could fill me in on something…"
- "Oh?" asks Briggie with a smile. "What is that?"
- "I haven't wanted to ask the elves about this…" you say. "Thinking that maybe it is a sensitive subject for them."
- She flatens her ears to her head and looks curious. "What is it?" she asks.
- "Why are there no half-elves in Ca'ial Brael?" you ask.
- "Ahh…" she says with a chuckle and a smile. "Oh yes, that. Well, half-elves are not welcome in Ca'ial Brael."
- "Don't they have wood elven parents?" you ask.
- She nods and says, "Aye, generally that's how it happens… unless of course their parents were just half-elves."
- "But if a wood elf was the parent, then it is a matter of great shame for that wood elf," she says. "If the wood elf was the mother, she will either kill the babe or, more likely, abandon it with a family in Tanvu."
- "If a wood elf is the father, he will probably never acknowledge the child," she says. "They do not consider them worthy of note. They are half bloods - impure and unworthy."
- "But the Tanvu humans accept them?" you ask.
- "To a limited degree," she says. "They do not have nearly as much freedom and respect in Tanvu as the humans do, but they are allowed to live there, at least."
- "Is there anything wrong with them?" you ask.
- "No," she says. "There is nothing wrong with them. In fact, they have many good qualities of both their parents that work together nicely."
- "They why?" you ask.
- "Ignorance," she says with a shrug. "Simple ignorance and blind arrogance. I will say nothing bad about our hosts… except that." She grins. "They are willfully ignorant."
Scholar Remmy
- "I'm quite busy at the moment, if you couldn't tel…"
- You say, "Scholar Remmy, Briggie sent me to speak with you."
- "Oh?" she asks. "Does this have anything to do with Mavelai?"
- "Who is Mavelai?" you ask.
- "Ah, oh! No one," she says, smiling in such a way that you know she is hiding something."
- "Does Mavelai have something to do with the research you've been conducting with half-elves?" you probe.
- Scholar Remmy looks startled and then exclaims, "It wasn't just me! As soon as the rumors began to spread, there was a rush to confirm them."
- "But what rumors?" you ask. "What is so important about the half-elves?"
- "You mean you don't know?" ask Remmy, wide eyed. "Oh dear, oh dear… I don't know whether I should tell you, or not…"
- "Listen," you say. "Briggie sent me on a mission to speak with the humans of Tanvu about the half elves, and how they can help fight the Ulvari."
- Scholar Remmy nods eagerly. "It is remarkable!" she says. "Mavelai was part of a patrol that left the Autumn Glow Outpost in order to try to travel to Tanvu to beseech aid."
- "Her fellows, all humans, were consumed by the ulvari, but though one gazed straight into her eyes, it could not enter her," she continues. "It's a remarkable story; though she tells it better, so I won't sully it by trying to recreate the narrative."
- "So what have you discovered from your studies?" you ask.
- "It seems that wood elves' inherent magic, which we have long determined to be connected to Jin itself, adn the Tanvu humans' unique musical signature weave together dynamically to shield the alf elven mind," she says.
- "What's more, however," she says, "it doesn't just repel the ulvari, it seems that it somehow disrupts their very makeup."
- "Tanvu needs to utilize the half-elves to their full potential in this conflict," she says. "And in order to get the half-elves to fight for them, the will probably need to begin treating them with a little more respect."
- "How do you suggest I present this to Tanvu?" you ask.
- "I well give you a report of my findings", she says. "After you have that, speak with Mavelai. She can tell you more of her story, and also more about the current relations between the humans and half-elves of Tanvu. You can find her at Jalen's Crossing, where some of my colleagues are still trying to assess her."
- "She will no dobut give you a better idea of who to talk to next," she says. "Though I ahve one more recommendation as well. My findings will only mean so much to the humans, but I know a Tanvu scholar, Lao Tak of the Order of the Lotus Fist, who should be able to vouch for me."
- "Find him at their monastery outside of Tanvu," she says. "Good luck!"
Mavelai Torada
- She looks at you fearfully. "I swear that I have permission to be here. Scholar Remmy invited me. She needed to speak with me about…" He voice cuts off. "She needed to speak with me."
- You say, "Mavelia, I understand that you have a remarkable story to tell."
- She glances up and over you and nods, saying, "I've told it many times already, and I'm not sure I want to tell it again."
- "I understand," you say. "Only I would ask you to tell it again with the possible result that the humans of Tanvu start acknowledging half-elves as full citizens."
- She looks curious. "Oh?" she asks. "And how would that come about?"
- "I'm certain that the implications of your tale have not escaped you," you say. "Your people are Telon's greatest weapon against the Ulvari."
- "Weapon?" asks Mavelai with wide eyes. "You think we can be used as a weapon?"
- "There is something about the half elven aura that is not only abhorrent to the ulvari," you say, "but reacts adversely to their makeup."
- "There needs to be half elves everywhere, "you say. "On the defenses, in the monasteries, in the courts. After all, close contact with a half elf may even be able to drive an ulvari out of another individual who is possessed."
- "They would never allow it" says Mavelai Torada with a frown. "The magistrates do not want to hear that we are capable of something they are not."
- "They tolerate us, unlike the wood elves," she says. "But we are not the saviors of Tanvu."
- "But you are," you say, "and until the government of Tanvu can be made to see and accept that, they will continue to be destroyed."
- Mavelai Torada studies you and says, "Assuming you could convince the Tanvu humans of our usefulness, what would it mean to the half-elf?"
- "Everything it mean to be the savious of Tanvu," you respond. "You would be heroes, and should have all opportunities afforded to you that befits a hero - nobility, prestige, your own magistrates…"
- Mavelai scoffs lightly, but asks, with just a hint of hope, "And you think you can get them to agree to all that?"
- You nod and say, "I am not certain of it, but I think it is a strong possibility. I simply need you to come with me and tell your tale, as well as direct me to any key individuals we should speak with."
- She nods and says, "My commander at House of Fallen Leaves, to begin. He has the ulvari at his back every moment, and has always treated half-elves as equals to his other recruits. I think he can be counted on to support us."
- "The a Magistrate…" she murmors. "Windwalker… Windwalker is the best choice, I think. Auroroa would be, but she has fallen out of disfavor. We need a Magistrate to support s before we can go to the Emporer. Let us speak with him."
General Tan Fen
- General Tan Fen says, "This is my house and here, all are welcome. So long as the magic barriers keep out the creatures we are unable to fight with wood and steel, we are safe here."
- You bow respectfully and say, "General Tan Fen, can I have a word with you?"
- "I see you have brought back Mavelai," he says. "Have the raki puzzled over her enough yet?" Or is her strong blade not yet once again available to me?"
- "She is needed for only a little longer," you say. "She and I are going to go to Tanvu to bring the findings of the raki straight to the Emporer."
- "To the Emporer?" asks the General. "Their findings must have been significant."
- "The have explored the ability of the half-elves to resist the effects of the ulvari," you explain. "And found that it is more than simply repelling them."
- "In fact, the half-elven makeup appears to interfere with their constitution," you say. "Breaking them down and making them vulnerable to attack."
- "Really," says General Tan-Fen, looking beyond you to study Mavelai. "What proof do they have?"
- "Mavelai's experience…" you say. "And a number of findings they have details in this report. It has something to do with the blend of the wood elven magic, which they think contains the essence of Jin, and the Tanvu humans' musical signature."
- General Tan Fen nods and says, "And you mean to take this to Tanvu?" To what ends?"
- "To have the half-elves acknowledged as important in the battle against the ulvari," you say, "and to have their contributions be rewarded once this is over."
- "How would you have them be rewarded?" he asks.
- "With the full rights of any citizen," you say.
- General Tan Fe says nothing and betrays nothing on his expression. After a moment, he nods. "As you can see by my soldiers here at the House of Fallen Leaves, anyone is welcome here. Everyone should have the chance to prove themselves, regardless of the circumstances of their birth."
- "If the half-elves can truly help us end the threat of the ulvari, then I believe they have proven themselves," he continues.
- "I will send my support with you to the Emporer," he finishes. "We do not hve the luxury, in these times, to be wasteful, and to ignore this possibility would be a great waste."
- "Good luck to you," he says with a curt nod. "Though you may have moved my mind, it will not be so easy to sway the Emporer."
Nao Tak
- Nao Tak coughs quietly and stares out into space.
- Nao Tak says, "Oh, hello! I didn't notice you there. I was just studying this strange gremlin artifact. One of our operatives recovered it from one of the broken portals, and it appears to have been made in such a way that it fits together with other similar pieces. Interesting!"
- You say, "Nao Tak, I understand that you know Scholar Remmy."
- "I do," says Nao Tak, "what does our familiarity mean to you and your friend there?"
- You say, "Remmy has been studying her because of an incident involving Mavelai and a group of ulvari."
- "Though they devoured the minds of her human companions," you say, "they could not touch her."
- "Oh?" asks Nao Tak. "How curious? Perhaps they do not like the taste of half-blood."
- You frown and say, "It is more than that. Remmy found that the half-elves disrupt the physical make-up of the ulvari, breaking down their constitutions."
- "Really…" says Nao Tak, looking between you and Mavelai. "Did Remmy say why?"
- "She said it had to do with the wood elven magic, which contains some essence of Jin, and the musical signature of the humans of Tanvu working as one, "you say. "A unique combination that is devastating to the spirits."
- "So it is the elements that they take from their full-blooded parents that make them powerful, and not any merit of their own," he says with a smile. "That makes more sense…"
- "But that blend is their own," you say. "You cannot find it in a wood elf, and you cannot find it in a human. Only within the blood of the half-elves does it exist, and I would say that makes it their achievement, and no one else's."
- "Remmy agreed with me," you say, "she is convinced that they have the potential to be the saviors of Tanvu, possibly of Telon."
- "But what makes you think they will lift a finger to help you and those line you when you scorn them?" you ask. "Only when you acknowledge them will they be able to help you; only when you treat them as heroes will they achieve the heroic."
- Nao Tak looks taken aback and is silent for a moment. "Well spoke," he says. "I am humbled, and I ask the forgiveness of yourself and your friend."
- "I have not though much of the half-elves," he says. "As they are neither human nor elf, I believe them to be something less than both."
- "But I have been wrong before," he says, "and though I may not be now, I will acknowledge the possibility. I know Remmy, and I trust her findings."
- "And I believe that anything we can try to do to save our nation, our people… our world… well we must, "he says. He bows his head and says, "If you need me to, I will vouvh for Remmy. I assume you must bring this to the Emporer?" You nod.
- "Then Jin be with you," he says. "You will be moving a mountain if you can change his mind."
Kon Le Windwalker
- Kon Le Windwalker says, "The Aurora and Threecranrs are those we number among friends. Though we suspect our friends of working behind out back. This disturbs the Windwalkers, and smells of treason as well."
- You say, "Illustrious Magistrate Windwalker, may I speak with you?"
- The Magistrate eyes you and then nods, saying, "Speak and I will listen."
- You say, "Thank you for hearing my words. I have come to speak with you on behalf of a raki council member."
- "They wish for Tanvu to consider some findings they have recently made," you say. "Findings which could potentially release Tanvu from the grip of the ulvari."
- "Oh?" asks Magistrate Windwalker. "Hile I doubt that there is any simple solution to our problwm with the ulvari, please, I permit you to continue."
- "Your wisdom is just," you say.
- "They have been studying half-elves," you say. "Most recently, this half-elf." You gesture to Marvelai.
- "She and her patrol squadron were set upon by ulvari outside the House of Fallen Leaves, "you say. "All the others, humans, were consumed."
- "When the ulvari came for her, they were repelled," you say. "In pain and terror, they fled, and she was able to return to the House and tell the tale."
- "A remarkable story," says the Magistrate, "but it has been noted that the half-elves are not affected by the ulvari mind control, but it has proven to mean nothing for the salvation of Tanvu herself."
- "But if I may continue," you interject, "the raki found that the half-elves not only repel the ulvari, their essence disrupts the ulvari."
- "Really?" asks the Magistrate. "And how is that?"
- "The spirit of Jin found in wood elven magic and the Tanvu human magical signature bind and react with the ulvari essence," you continue. "They have not nailed down exactly why, but it is indisputable that they can hurt the ulvari with only their presence."
- Windwalker nods and says, "And what does this mean for Tanvu? Why have you come to me?"
- "We need a Magistrate to back us in order to see the Emporer, "you say, "and we were hoping to have your support."
- "We mean to ask him to guarantee full citizenship to all half-elves," you say, "including appointing at least one half-elven magistrate, if they take the front line in the battle against the ulvari. I trust that you do not think those terms are unfari. Equality seems a small reward to give the heroes of Tanvu."
- Kon Le Windwalker chuckles and says, "The potential heroes of Tanvu. But no, I do not think that is unreasonable. I am not certain they will be se successful, but…" He looks distant. "Any hope right now is welcome."
Quest Completion
- The Magistrate seems to think for a long moment then says:
- "This is a sound proposal. I will bring it to the Emporer."
- [Continue]
- He continues:
- "Though I must see proof that the half-elves are capable of what the raki scholar claim, I beleive they should be given the opportunity to prove themselves. And if the prove themselves, they will be entitled to the full benefits of citizenship."
