This quest will result in the acquirement of your own Journey Boots. There is an activated ability on the boots, which provide you with a +25% to movement speed, but does not stack with other movement enhancements.
Run, Run as Fast as You Can
We start our journey in Kaon's Rush searching for a man by the name of Hasten Bootstrutter… err I mean Hastey Bootstrut. He doesn't like to remain still, which could cause problems finding him. In fact, he runs around the entire chunk, and is hard to locate (especially with no track in this game). As a bard I followed Hastey for more than 20 minutes running around the entire chunk, until he stopped to rest by a tree near the large bridge, which is located southwest of the Fallen Lyceum. This is the best place to find him (loc = 5205, 34815, 31222). If he is not there, I recommend waiting there until he appears. (check quest overview for Hastey's location)
Hastey seems quite excited about offering you a special pair of boots, all he seems to want in return is a Band of the Ancients, a Shadowed Rapier, and 3 of Cojo's Golden Charms. All three items can be obtained in any order you wish, but I'd recommend going for the Ancient Cyclops first, because without this piece there is no reason to get the other two.
Where oh Where Could my Cyclops Be?
The Ancient Cyclops slowly wanders through the Temple of Dailuk chunk, and unfortunately does have a few PH's that you might have to deal with before he will appear. The names of all three mobs are as followed: Watcher (level 12 - 16 2dot), Nerksawl (level 53 6dot [thx Biki]), or Ancient Cyclops (all Cyclops looking beings). Only one can be up at a time, and they all follow the same wandering path (check map to the side for pathing). From the way I see it, the best way to find the mob is by either having multiple people running around the path searching for one of the 3 mobs, or you can play it safe and stay on the green line that is indicated on the map. The green line indicates when the Cyclops wanders onto a real path, which makes it the easiest place to find the Cyclops as he walks by.
Note: I think I read somewhere that Nerksawl is not apart of this PH cycle anymore, but this is unconfirmed. - note 6/4/2012 - Nerksaw is part of the PH cycle.
When you do find the Ancient Cyclops, get ready for a long fight. He is a level 35 6dot mob, and my bard around the same level didn't last but 3 punches from the big guy. Luckily my skills from other previous games that I've played helped in this situation and I flawlessly kited him (for about 30 minutes… sheesh), while Manzanillo attacked from behind yelling "I'm only hitting him for 10!". Once he falls, you can loot the Band of the Ancients. He also has a chance of dropping some nice gear, when we killed him he dropped a Cyclops Skin Vest.
Charmful Cojo
Now that the hard part is out of the way, it's smooth sailing from here! Yup, smooth sailing… all the way to Kojan, where you need to find a Raki by the name of Cojo. The fastest way there would be to take the riftway to Jalen's Crossing and Pegasus your way south to the Woodelf/Raki home city. You can find Cojo on the main platform up in the trees of Ca'ial Brail (you know the one with the broker, the banker, and the candlestick maker.. wait.. scratch that last one). I know how confusing Ca'ial Brail is (especially for new visitors), so a map is provided of the exact location of Cojo.
Once you find Cojo, you need to purchase 3 of her Cojo's Golden Charms, each costing 1 gold (I hope you brought money). While you're coughing up the 3 gold, you may want to take the time to also cough up a bit more money for some gear repair (yup, Cojo is multi-talented), and make your way to the last spot… off to kill some invisible men.
Men of Shadows?
Last stop is Misthaven Crossing to find the Shadowed Men to obtain their Rapier. Luckily Misthaven has a riftway leading you straight to it! In fact the Shadowed Men are only a bit northwest of the Riftway at the top of the hill (check the map if you are having a hard time locating them). There are tons of them surrounding a big alter, so there won't be too much hassle with running out of mobs.
Each time you kill a Shadowed Man, he will drop a shadowed weapon. The weapon you are looking for is the Shadowed Rapier. It is a random drop and can fall off of any of them. Unfortunately, unlike games from the past, the visual weapon they are holding does not match the one they drop (sorry EverQuest people). Once you have the Shadowed Rapier (and you have finished your embarrassing victory dance), you might notice that the weapon is stuck with the NO RENT tag (this means the weapon will disappear if you log out of the game for too long), so off to Hastey you go before you forget to turn it in for your reward!
Hastey, Give me Your Boots!
So now that you have all the items needed for the turn in, make your way to Rathe Mountains… err, I mean Kaon's Rush and go back to the spot, next to the tree, where Hastey stops for rest. If he is not there, just wait for him to appear (might take 20+ minutes). When he does, you are home free, and are now the owner of a brand new pair of Journey Boots, with the great activated ability called SOW (no, it is not short for anything). Congratulations!
NOTE: the Journey Boots cannot be activated in your inventory. You must equip to use.
