Cragwind Ridge is located on Qalia, south of Infineum plateau which is south of Coterie Infineum Sanctuary.
1. The Cragwind weapon quest begins with Big Dumb Brutes offered by Rochius Pitran located on the island to the rear of Vorkellix Hold (the cave with the quest NPCs), near the Cragwind Ridge riftstone.
2. Big Dumb Brutes gives you a griffin mount and a set of 5 points to patrol. The quest gives you a location where the griffon can be activated; this is outside the cave, down the right path (also marked on the map), use sprint (or run buff) to get there in time. Make sure you visit the "Griffon Launchpad" so that the "Scout Location 1" will be updated on your map. You are given 90 seconds to get to each point and then return to Rochius Pitran the quest giver. The navigation marker will update to the next point as you pass each point in succession. Your 90 seconds resets once you hit a patrol point.
4. Codex of the Wind requires you find the Codex of the Wind. There is a slope inside the caves to get to the top and you just need to kill any of the mobs up top for the random drop, and then return to Rochius Pitran.
5. Codex of the Wind (Part 2): The next step is to simply talk to Zarglax the cyclops located inside the cave at the base of the slope up, he will give you a Dull Mistral Shard and request you to carry out a ritual at the Shrine of the Zephyr.
6. Shrine of the Zephyr. Back up top, there is a shrine (4 pillars in a square). At the shrine, click on the pot to spawn Spirit of Aoem, complete the dialogue, and kill him. The Dull Mistral Shard will be consumed.
Zarglax will now offer 3 or more quests –
The The Lesser Shrines, Shrine of the Wind and your choice of final reward:
- Tempestweave, Song of the Mistral Storm
- Stormblast, Edge of the Mistral Storm
- Galebreaker, Guardian of the Mistral Storm
- Zephyrkin, Eye of the Mistral Storm
Warning
This is where you choose your final reward choose the quest carefully and make note of what items you are required to select for the Lesser Shrine and Wind Shrine rewards. If you select the incorrect items in error or ignorance you will not be able to get your final reward !!! Beware.
For example to get the DPS long sword you must select the Stormblast, Edge of the Mistral Storm quest, then select the Dagger of the Zephyr from The Lesser Shrines and the Longsword of the Tempest from Shrine of the Wind.
This is where the real pain begins, you need to head to the NW of the cave to the large slop and start killing the various Cyclops. They are around lvl 33-34 3 dots (unless you head inside at the very top inside the building where they are 4 dots).
The Cyclops drop mistral slivers and named drop 2-3 (ive seen reports of around a (40%-60% chance of a drop but in my farming experience I would say its closer to 33%) this means you will need to kill around 1500 mobs excluding the rock mobs who add or who are in the way.
You cannot trade the slivers, so one person needs to collect 30 slivers to hand in to Zarglax to make a dull shard. These dull shards are required to start the lesser shrine rituals (you need to complete 3 of these rituals to get 3 energized shards to start the Shrine of the wind ritual).
VERY IMPORTANT: HAVE ONE MEMBER COLLECT ENERGIZED SHARDS OFF THE FINAL MOB AT THE LESSER SHRINES. ONE MEMBER MUST HAVE ALL 3 TO START AND COMPLETE THE SHRINE OF THE WIND.
- Complete the ritual at the Shrine of the Tempest (portal loc 16038,-17477, 16283)
- Complete the ritual at the Shrine of the Gale (shrine loc 29066, -65929, 21040)
- Complete the ritual at the Shrine of the Cyclone (portal loc 13375, -63456, 17573)
The shrine of the Gale is the only shrine that can be reached from the ground. In order to get to the shrines of the tempest and cyclone you must find the eye of the tempest/cyclone and have a dull shard. When your group is standing on it, right click the dull shard and it ports you all up.
You take the dull shard to the lesser shrines and put the first one in the pot, which begins the event. Each ritual consists of several rounds. The round consist of a few mobs or ground spawns kill the mobs (except the clouds which require cc as they are not damageable) once the mobs are dead loot the little Blue glowing shard that is a ground spawn and click the pot to start the next round. The last round has a named that drops an item and the last piece to put in the pot before you get your groups energized shard.
Tips to assist when attempting the Shrines.
Have someone who can levitate your group, an evacer or be prepared to “base jump” and die after the tempest and cyclone shrines as once complete we couldn’t find a way to port back down.
Watch out for the clouds that spawn in the waves they can’t be damaged and have a nasty knock back (they managed to knock 2 of our team off of top of the spires.
If some one should fall to their death it is possible to get back up top but to do this you must stop the ritual and the dead person must hire a flying mount at the Coterie Infineum Sanctuary portal and fly back. If you don’t you won’t get the credit for the lesser shrines (not necessary if you already have credit on the quest and the group can function without you).
Only loot the ground spawns once you are very close to them, my group leader had one poof in the process and we think it was due to the distance from the item as has happened to me in the past. This will lead to a lengthy delay while you petition as they don’t respawn.
The rituals don’t always start with a mob spawn sometimes it’s a ground spawn.
8. Shrine of the Wind
Take the 3 energized shards and ** to the big temple with the shrine of the wind at the very top of the large slope you farmed your shards on. I suggest clearing the entire room before you put the energized shards in the pot. It seems that after you put the shards in there the pot needs to be stirred (clicked on again). Be advised that this event is considerably more difficult than the lesser shrines.
4 waves of 2-3 mobs (35-36 4 dots) before the Named pops. I would suggest having **od crowd control when you do this, Kill the giant “Lordling”. And once he dies all the group will get the quest update (you don’t need to kill the other mobs if you don’t want to.
Note
In an ideal world you will complete this quest with a static group and will have one person do everything, the mistrals, the dull shards (HAVE to have one person do that). All clicks on the shrine pots E V E R Y T H I N G, can't stress that enough, this is a huge mutli step quest but its worth it in the end.
Rewards
When you get back to Zarglax after finishing Shrine of the Wind, you are able to choose the shrine of the wind reward. I believe that any one specific class can only choose one of the rewards from both the lesser shrine and shrine of the wind quest. But, basically you can choose to either keep your two rewards or turn them both in to the giant for a final level 40 legendary item.
Here are the rewards I know of
- Cyclonus, Gust of the Mistral Storm – Druid, Psi, Sorc, BM, Nec – 46.22 DPS 81 Damage focus +57 Crit Spell Hit chance Don’t know the clicky effect sorry
- Stormslam, Shock of the Mistral Storm - Monk Disciple 2hs 70.88 Dps +8 Str, Dex, Vit, +50 Hps,Energy, +55melee Dmg
- Stormblast, Edge of the Mistral Storm –Bard, Pally, Inq, Ranger, DK, Rogue, War, Berserker - 1hs 59.57 DPS +40Parry, +20 Melee Evasion clicky effect is +10% parry for 1m with a 30 min reuse
- Zephyrkin, Eye of the Mistral Storm - 290 AC, 28%block vs lvl 40, +19Vit, +6 Wis,+ 52 Energy, +18 Melee Mitigation – Healer reward, clicky effect is +10% heals for 1m with a 30 min reuse
Summary
a) Do the pre quests (griffin scouting and shrine atop the NPC camp).
b) Collect 30 Mistral Slivers off the Cyclopes.
c) Turn in 30 Slivers to the little 'clops in the NPC camp to receive one "Dull Mistral Shard".
d) Repeat till you have three Dull Mistral Shards (aka farm 90 Slivers).
e) Do the "The Lesser Shrines" quest - make sure only ONE person loots all the "Energized Mistral Shards".
f) Use the three EMS to trigger the final Wind shrine ritual.
Notes:
You do not have to have one person collect the 90 slivers, you can split them among people if you want - the looting at "The Lesser Shrines" quest has to be done by a single person though so you end up with all three EMS on one person.
