Weaknesses (Combat)

Introduction to Weaknesses

A New and unique system has been introduced in Vanguard called 'Weaknesses'. These really add a lot of depth to the combat system, and allow for an immense number of tactical combinations between different classes. Below I will explain what the different weaknesses are, and how to understand what weaknesses your abilities add, and which they exploit.

Weaknesses are status conditions that spells and abilities may inflict on a target during combat. In addition, some spells and abilities may exploit existing weaknesses to increase damage.

Creating Weakness

If you look at the ability Hammer of Judgement I you will see two icons below the description. The first one means that it adds the weakness 'Dazed' because of the + sign next to it Image:Weakness Creation.jpeg. The second one means that it exploits the weakness 'Soul Wracked'Image:Weakness Exploit.jpeg . This means that it will do much more damage if used while this weakness in on the creature.

Spotting Weakness

Weaknesses are displayed under the offensive target window. If there are other spell effects on the target, the weaknesses are shown under those. Know the weaknesses you can exploit and watch for their icons there. The target window here shows (from left to right) the Dazed, Burning, Vulnerable, Lethargic, and Blindness weaknesses have been applied to the Dirtslam Gremlin.

Exploiting Weakness

I have an ability Cyclone Kick that has the same Image:Dazed.jpeg icon on the bottom of it indicating it exploits the Dazed weakness. So when I see this icon on the target window I should use the Cyclone Kick ability to exploit it.

Exploiting a weakness shows up as an extra line in your combat window or logs such as

  • Your Cyclone Kick II hits Martok Flamecaller for 5 damage
  • You exploit the dazed weakness on Martok Flamecaller, dealing 123 additional damage.
